The 3 Peaks Challenge is the classic adventure that sees climbers attempt to summit on the highest mountain in Scotland, England and Wales all within one day! The adventure of 3 Peaks begins in the highlands of Scotland as climbers head north through the atmospheric Glen Coe towards Fort William to meet their match in Ben Nevis simply known as ‘The Ben’.
3 Peaks throws its toughest challenge at you first, the Ben is the highest mountain in the UK standing at 1,344m. Starting at sea level climbers will take on the long climb to the top of Scotland. Climbers are likely to encounter and cross a band of snow on the summit plateaux before topping out at the trig point. Pausing to take in the breath taking scenery it won’t be long before you have to turn round and contemplate the long descent back to the visitor centre.
After completing the Ben there is just about enough time to take onboard some much needed food to give you the fuel you need before getting back in the car and heading to the Lake District for the second challenge of the three peaks. Scafell Pike majestically sits in the middle of the Lakes standing at 978m and climbers will attempt the trickier but more scenic corridor route. The rewards of the views along the way are a fantastic reminder as to why people attempt the three peaks. Having reached the summit the adrenaline will be pumping and the clock will be running down and before long so will you!
The final mountain of the 3 Peaks stands at 1,085m making Snowdon the highest mountain in Wales. Climbers by now are tired, but happy in the knowledge their conquest is near completion. Starting at Pen-y-Pas those who had adventured this far will be pleased to know they already have a significant height gain as they set off for the summit up the Pyg Track. All being well climbers should hit the summit in time to see a stunning sunset from the top with an incredible sense of achievement and incredible memories of an adventure they won’t forget in a hurry.
Back to Pen-y-Pas before heading off for a well deserved meal and pint as its time for the climbers to regale in the adventure of the last 24 hours. If the adventure of 3 Peaks has got your name written all over it then get your space on the next challenge!
