The Lake District is England's largest national park and includes Scafell Pike - its highest mountain, Wastwater - its deepest lake and picturesque and thriving towns like Keswick and Grasmere. This is the gorgeous backdrop for the 24 Peaks Challenge where over the course of a weekend you will ascend the mountains in the area, offering you unparalleled and well earned breathtaking views. The aim of the challenge is to climb 24 Peaks, which are all over 2400ft during the course of two days and less than 24 hours walking. The peaks that you will summit on during the challenge include Scafell Pike the highest mountain in England. Each section of the walk has its own challenges for you to meet and conquer and by the time you have finished you will have climbed around 13,000ft over the course of the challenge! Starting at Gatesgarth Farm your first day's walking will see you cover approximately 17.5 miles and summit on 10 of your 24 Peaks. It will be a long day and you can expect to take between 13 and 17 hours approximately to complete - a real test of endurance. After your first day its back to base for a well deserved rest where you will have the chance to get a hot shower, dinner and a chance to relax before hitting the hay to get as much rest as possible for the second day of the challenge. The second day is another early rise for you and your teammates. Today you will have a shorter distance of 14 miles, but with the opportunity to bag 14 summits. This will take between 8 and 12 hours to complete and you will see the summit of well known peaks like Hellvelyn, where someone once landed a plane! With the 24 Peaks in the bag you can feel justifiably proud of your achievement and take the short trip to back to Keswick where you can get cleaned up and enjoy a traditional English dinner that will hit the spot! You'll then have time to enjoy a drink with your new found friends and regale in the stories of a long but very enjoyable weekend.
